No Justice No Peace

For this work, I took the famous “Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima ” photograph and the Pledge of Allegiance’s “and justice for all,” but juxtaposed them with protesters and police fighting over the flag beneath the protest slogan “NO JUSTICE NO PEACE” to capture the divide the country was – and still is – experiencing. Spray paint was chosen as the medium in reference to its common use in the tradition of civil disobedience.
